Does Toothpaste Get Rid of Pimples?
I always wondered if using toothpaste to get rid of pimples actually worked. I had heard from several of my friends and even a few colleagues at work about how putting on some toothpaste will get rid of a pimple in next to no time. To be honest I have tried this a few times in my life with varying degrees of success. I guess you could regard it as one of those home remedies to treat your skin that you may have heard people talking about.
So can you actually use toothpaste to get rid of pimples? Firstly it depends on your skin type and in some cases the area of your body that you plan to put the toothpaste. If you have sensitive skin then you may find that toothpaste is too abrasive for your skin. It might actually make the acne worse believe it not! A few times I have tried it especially around my nose it has left the pimple even redder than before I started. In other cases it has left the skin really dry with a scab eventually forming over the pimple. Worst of all, the pus still remains underneath! It’s simply got a tougher layer of skin over the top which stops you from getting to it or from applying any kind of treatment to it until the scab comes off naturally. Toothpaste will also cause you problems if you suffer from dry skin conditions. Much like sensitive skin it’ll strip the moisture out of your skin and leave it even dryer than before.
That’s the bad news. The good news is for many people toothpaste will actually give you decent results for getting rid of pimples. The science behind it is pretty simple. Most toothpaste’s contain baking soda which draws at the pimple and in some cases can help to reduce inflammation. It’s worth having a look online to see if someone has tried a specific brand of toothpaste for acne before and this will save you some time and money with trying out all different brands. Don’t use gel’s as they don’t contain the same active ingredients. If you do have try or sensitive skin you may still be able to use toothpaste but don’t leave it on over night like most people would do. Apply it to the pimple and leave it for about half an hour then wash off with warm soapy water. You can apply the toothpaste in moderate amounts using your finger. Apply it to the pimple and rub it in like a cream then leave to dry before going to bed. The idea is that you’ll be pimple free when you wake up the next morning.
So in conclusion yes you can use toothpaste to get rid of pimples but watch out for the time the paste remains on your skin. If you have sensitive or dry skin don’t leave it on for anymore than half an hour.
